Pond Near Smicksburg

Sat, August 19, 2023, 1:00 – 4:00 pm

Description

Join us at 1:00 on Saturday, August 12, to remove water chestnut from a private pond in northern Indiana County. This is the first report of water chestnut in Indiana County, so even though we don’t usually work on private property, it is important that we quickly eliminate this aggressive aquatic invasive before it spreads. The infestation covers about half of a 1/2 acre pond.

We will mostly remove the floating rosettes by canoe or kayak, but some people will be able to work from shore. You can help by signing up as a volunteer and registering for this work event, or by sending an email message to volunteers@plantpatrol.org telling us that you want to volunteer for the August 13 water chestnut event. Tell us whether or not you can bring a canoe or kayak and how many people it will hold. If you can bring an extra canoe or kayak for another volunteer to use, let us know that, too. We will get back in touch with you shortly before the work event to give you directions to the pond.
